california restaurant association
Looking for some good restaurants to eat at? Look at some owned by the CA Restaurant Association.
Introduction
Jim Wenler is a chair for the education committee for the California Restaurant Assiciation (CRA). He has worked for the Fish Market for 15 years now, and became the CEO in 2005. He owns restaurants in the Bay Area and San Diego. Andrew Mosblech is the director of service operations for Urban Kitchen. Ashley Kriske graduated from SDSU in 2009 and is the General Manager of Chili's in Mira Mesa. Chad opened the High Dive in Bay Park, but sold it and now owns/works at Waterfront, Hovertown, and Werewolf. Summary All four speakers from the CRA gave great advice to our class. Jim told us not to shy away from any door opening (opportunity). He said to take advantage of open doors and explore your passions using your skills. Andrew told us that in the restaurant industry, you are on your feet a lot, can move up a lot, and the sky is the limit. Ashley also said that you can move up a lot in the restaurant industry. Chad said that success is making everyone happy. He also said that if you think you are the best at something, you are probably the worst. |
Reflection
I think that the speakers from the California Restaurant Association were pretty good. I think that Jim was extremely annoying, however, I think Chad was my favorite. Jim was annoying because he kept intervening into everyone else's speech and he was like a commentator on everything anyone said. He needed to say what he had to say at the beginning and then give everyone else a chance to say what they wanted, in my opinion. I really enjoyed Chad's speech because he was so different from other speakers. He expressed how nervous he was to us which I thought gave him a lot of credibility for standing up there and cracking jokes and talking to us. Also, he built his restaurants/bars from the ground up which I thought was very interesting. Also, when Chad said that he started High Dive in Bay Park, I was really excited because I went there for Valentine's Day with my boyfriend because it is one of his favorite places to eat. I also really enjoyed Ashley's passion for the restaurant industry. Hearing that she became General Manager of her Chili's after only 2 years of working there was inspiring. However, after all of their speeches, I do not think that the restaurant industry is something I could see myself in for a long-term career. |
